“Android was not designed to be safe”:Google’s Sundar Pichai

“Android was not designed to be safe”, it was designed to be open” these words come from Google’s head of Android, Sundar Pichai when asked about malware situation on Android devices.

The mobile threat report by CISCO shows that 99% of all mobile malwares targeted by Android devices.

When Pichai was asked about the malware situation on Android platform that he answered frankly:

“We cannot guarantee that Android is designed to be safe, the format was designed to give more freedom. When people talk about 90% of malware for Android, they must of course take into account the fact that it is the most popular operating system in the world. If I had a company dedicated to malware, I would also be addressing my attacks on Android…”

Pichai’s statement might be taken out of context, but such type of statements creates controversies when came from senior authorities. Pichai also told that Nexus 6 would be on the way in third quarter of the year.
